I did something yesterday that I haven't done in months. I caught up on my knitblog reading. I used to be a daily reader of blogs but getting a day job has fantanstically messed this up. Did I mention that I have a day job now? There are nice things about going to work: leaving the house on a daily basis, interacting with beings other than my cat, feeling compelled to grooom, oh, and the money. The money is very nice.
There are some downsides to the day job, though. Aside from messin' with my blog reading, it also interfers with my freelance consulting and my knitting. I've also learned that the day job can be a source of stress. Last week was especially brutal because I had a day job deadline, a freelance deadline and multiple knitting deadlines. I was a mess, but I put my head down and powered through. All I remember about last week was a blur of typing, a metric ton of coffee and finishing the last thing early Saturday morning in time to drive to LA to party like a rockstar.
We actually went up to LA to visit some friends who were staying in South Pasadena, because no one in their right mind would even think about approaching LA during the Oscars. Despite a few too many margaritas, it was a pretty relaxing weekend. The only time I was really aware I was in LA was when we were sitting on the patio and a peacock landed on the neighbours roof. Aside from my husband and I, no one was phased. Apparently, it is one of 3 others in the neighbourhood. It’s rumoured that they escaped from the Playboy mansion, which would normally sound ironic, except we were actually in close proximity to the place. So surreal.
One good thing about the day job is the bus commute. The only bus in San Diego that has a route I comprehend is the one from my apartment to work. It's also the only route that's taken me anywhere I've wanted to go in under an hour. The great thing about the bus is that I get to knit for at least half an hour a day. The downside is that knitting has made me a very recognizable figure among my fellow commuters. A lttle too recognizable. The other day, one of the burly, construction worker, bus regulars asked what I was knitting now. It was a bit unsettling that he was keeping track of what I was pulling out of my knitting bag.
I just finished this beauty for the shop. This yarn is so gorgeous, I wish there was more.
